Master study of “The Zaan River at Zaandam” by Claude Monet, 1871. The overall composition of this study matches the original. The colors, however, are much more saturated. It is clear in the study that the artist benefits from a well-trained eye. For example, he was able to pick out the very subtle green shades visible in the waterfront buildings of Monet’s version and turned up the saturation to a bright lime color.
