Florida Highwayman I
"Untitled" by Alfred Hair
Master Study
About
A master study of an untitled work by Alfred Hair, one of Florida’s Highwaymen painters. These painters used a method called “fast painting” to make and sell many paintings to sell high quantities for a cheaper price. As black American artists, this was their solution to making ends meet, because their work would not be recognized as valuable by white collectors and gallery owners. In Roon’s style, he highlights Hair’s convincing application of light and shadows to build out Florida’s unique landscapes.
